Hacksaw

Hacksaw is a found-footage-style indie horror film written and directed by Anthony Leone. It’s about a guy on a road trip with his fiance, and he convinces her to stop at an old warehouse known for some grisly murders that happened there. Hacksaw is currently doing the festival rounds, and we don’t want to spoil anything, so we’ll stick to the basics here.

What we liked:

The lighting and score were both done well.

The costume design and makeup department were really good.

The practical effects of the gore were good.

The plot was interesting.

What we thought could have been better:

The balance of screen time.

The acting. (In some scenes because of the way they were written)

The found-footage camerawork.

It clocks in at just over an hour. Another half-hour would have really benefited the film.

Overall:

Overall, we thought Hacksaw was a pretty decent effort. There were a lot of things that it did really well, and there were some things that it didn’t do well. Hacksaw has a lot of heart where it matters and also doesn’t compromise when it comes to the practical effects of gore. We think that for a debut feature film, Leone is definitely on the right track and we hope to see more horror films from him in the future.
