Underground

Underground is an indie horror film written by Lars Janssen and Charlotte Dawn Potter and directed by Lars Janssen. It's about a group of five girls who, after a bachelorette party, get kicked out of their taxi because one of them vomits inside, and ends up lost in an underground military bunker shortly afterward.

We will keep this one short, as there isn't really a lot to unpack here. The film, for the most part, just follows the group of girls who are lost in the bunker. They hear things from time-to-time, and stumble across some odd things in the bunker, but for the most part, not much really happens. It seems like they are supposed to put the pieces together to some puzzle in this labyrinth of tunnels they are wandering through, but most of it just leads to nothing. There isn't even really an atmosphere to engross you in the despair that these characters would be feeling in this situation, and, for the most part, they seem ok. They aren't panicking, or freaking out, despite hearing voices, and seeing things down there.

Overall, this seemed like a rushed idea based on a filming location that someone found one day and thought "This would be a cool location for a horror film." and then just made one without developing a deep enough plot to support it. There was just no substance, no atmosphere, and after the first 1/3 of the movie was spent on watching them party, we were hoping they were going to be in for some terrifying circumstances, and it just never came to be. We would say that this one can be safely avoided unless you are really into bunkers. There are better films out there that accomplish what is missing here.

Underground releases today, January 9th exclusively on SCREAMBOX, so give it a watch and let us know what you think!
