Some people are excited about the new Chucky film, and it seems to have divided the horror community in some ways. There are some fans who just want to see more Chucky and some who are fans of the original series who aren't as happy that Don Mancini and Brad Dourif aren't involved. It's also a bit awkward timing because Mancini himself is actually developing a Child's Play TV series that actually does involve Brad Dourif as the voice of Chucky, and from what we know also exists in the same universe as all of the previous films. There has even been a "#NotMyChucky" tag circulating on the internet in support of the TV show over the film.
We have been on the fence about this one, ourselves, as diehard fans of the original series (despite how bad "Seed of..." was) and supporters of Mancini and Dourif. On the other hand, it is also refreshing to see a big-budget version of a classic franchise. We want to see more Chucky in theaters. And once Mark Hamill was on board as the voice of Chucky, you can't help but be at least curious as to how he will do in the role. He has said in recent interviews how much he respects Dourif and wants to do the role justice, and having done the voice for the Joker in the Batman cartoons, he definitely has experience voicing a psycho, which fits right in here.
We aren't sure how this is going to turn out, as we have only gotten to see glimpses here and there of what is to come so far, but the official Twitter page for the upcoming Child's Play movie has dropped a full trailer in which it shows a bit more backstory, some more characters, and even a bit of dialogue from Hamill. Let us know what you think about the new trailer!
